Spar Scotland is taking the first delivery of new season Scottish strawberries and raspberries into stores this weekend (Friday 1 May 2020).

Punnets of strawberries (£2 for 300g) and raspberries (£2 for 125g) from Castleton Farm, in the Howe of the Mearns, Aberdeenshire will be hitting the shelves in Spar stores around Scotland.

Scottish soft fruit growers Castleton Fruit started to supply Spar Scotland last year. Based in Aberdeenshire, the family business has been farming soft fruit since 1992.

New season supply to Spar stores begins this May with fresh strawberry and raspberry punnets being made available to every store. Other soft fruit coming during the summer will include blueberries, blackberries and cherries.

Colin McLean, CEO of Spar Scotland, said: “We are delighted to continue to support local, Scottish supplier Castleton Farm. This family run business by Ross and Anna Mitchell, in the Howe of the Mearns, Aberdeenshire has been growing quality fruit for over 20 years. It is great that their product is available from Spar stores all over the country for customers to enjoy all through the season.”

Castleton Fruit owners Ross and Anna Mitchell said: “We are very proud of our soft fruit business and the quality we are producing. It means a lot that we have the support of Spar Scotland.”

Castleton Farm is now one of the biggest commercial growers in Scotland; their fruit fields are the equivalent of 142 football pitches.
