Dunnet Bay Distillers has launched its latest gin expression: Rock Rose Gin Smoked Orange.

An initial batch of 600 bottles will be released on 5 July before the gin becomes the ninth member of Dunnet Bay’s core range in November.

Smoked Orange is the creation of graduate placement trainee Craig Chalmers; the 23-year-old recently gained a degree in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University.

A fan of smoky, peaty whiskies, Chambers said it was a natural development to consider a smoky gin: “I opted for Lapsang Souchong tea, making a distillate to introduce the smoky notes, and then experimented with various citrus ingredients. Sweet orange peel was just right.”

Other botanicals used include tangerine sage, pineapple sage, lemon verbena, cassia, liquorice, water-mint, and bilberries.

Smoked Orange is presented in signature Rock Rose Gin ceramic bottles. The recommended serve is as a G&T garnished with orange peel and sage.
