Aldi has teamed up with Great British Menu veteran, chef Jak O’Donnell, and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) to celebrate the launch of its new and exclusive Lauchlan Burn Scotch Lamb Lorne Specialbuy – which is available in stores from today (18 June).

Using the sausage, Jak O’Donnell has been tasked with making an easy yet delicious breakfast which will be shown as part of QMS’s virtual Royal Highland Show this weekend.

Cooking from her home on Saturday 20 June, she will demonstrate how to whip up her simple yet delicious Lamb Lorne Hash in under 10 minutes. Consumers can follow Jak step by step on the Quality Meat Scotland and Scotch Kitchen Facebook pages.

On rising to the challenge, Jak O’Donnell commented: “I love cooking with quality Scottish produce and Scotch lamb is one of my favourite ingredients. Aldi’s new Lauchlan Burn Scotch Lamb Lorne is a fantastic product that presents Scotch Lamb in a new and accessible way.

“My Scotch Lamb Lorne Hash is a bit different than your average breakfast and can be spiced up to make a great brunch or lunch dish. Tune in on Saturday and I’ll show you exactly how easy it is to make.”

Lorne sausage is one of Scotland’s best-loved breakfast foods and is traditionally made using a mixture of pork and beef which is minced with rusk and spices. Created exclusively for Aldi by award-winning Scottish butcher, We hae meat, the new Lauchlan Burn Lamb Lorne is a delicious twist on the classic square sausage with a hint of pepper and spice.

Cooked breakfast

On developing the new product, Carlyn Paton, Director at We hae meat which supplies the Lauchlan Burn Lamb Lorne, explains: “We were really excited to work with Aldi on this product innovation to present Scotch Lamb in a new way for Scottish consumers to enjoy. The meat used in our products are of the highest quality sourced from our farm here in Girvan or from a select few other producers.

“We hope that our Lauchlan Burn Lamb Lorne will bring something different to the table, whether you try Jak’s ultimate breakfast recipe or simply pop it in a bap, it’s a great way to enjoy quality Scottish produce.”

Exclusively available from Aldi stores in Scotland, the Lauchlan Burn Lamb Lorne is the only Lorne sausage on the market made using Scotch Lamb rather than pork or beef.

Lesley Cameron, Director of marketing and communications at Quality Meat Scotland, commented: “We’re really pleased that Aldi and We hae meat have worked together on this product to present lamb in a new and accessible way. Scotch Lamb is the best in the world, but sometimes consumers don’t quite know how to cook with it, and it is certainly not something you’d traditionally find in a full Scottish breakfast. Now consumers can enjoy quality Scotch Lamb in an easy and delicious product.”

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director, Aldi Scotland added: “We’re always very happy to work with suppliers on product innovations, and this one is particularly exciting for us. At Aldi we’re keen supporters of the Scottish red meat industry and while lamb is a popular product, it is often enjoyed on a Sunday as a roast, not as a staple breakfast ingredient.

“Thanks to We hae meat, consumers can now support the Scottish red meat industry while trying a new and unique product.”

Aldi’s Specialbuy Lauchlan Burn Lamb Lorne (270g, £1.79) is available in stores across Scotland from today for a limited time only.
