A collaboration between an Edinburgh wine bar and a golf shop in Gullane has launched the latest in its line of limited-edition whiskies, ‘Golfers Spirits’.

The owners of Whighams and the Jack White golf shop originally bonded over their shared love of hickory golf, which is played with old-school hickory shafted clubs. Their latest spirit has been created as a 100th anniversary commemoration to Walter Hagen’s Open win at Royal St George’s in 1922.

Known as the “father of professional golf,” Hagen was a major figure in the sport in the first half of the 20th century and the first American to win the Open.

The Walter Hagen Centennial Whisky is a single barrel Ben Nevis nine-year-old, bottled 100 years to the day after Hagen’s win at a cask strength of 61.2 % ABV. It is a single barrel refill, matured for two years in a bourbon cask and non-chill filtered.

The range also includes the Walter Hagen Centennial US Open Edition and the James Braid 150th Anniversary Edition.

The new whisky is available from Whighams and the Old Clubhouse in Gullane.
